If We Were Having Mexican & Margaritas … | Vol. 1

Jamie @ Perpetual Page Turner has these great posts on her blog called, “If We Were Having Coffee,” where she talks a little bit about the things going on in her life, the things behind the blogger. She got the inspiration from a life coach and has been doing them ever since 2013!

I’ve loved every one I’ve read, and after seeing some other people do their take on this great idea (like Laura @ Scribbles & Wanderlust), I decided to do my own version. Except my version is “If we were having Mexican & Margaritas,” because I kid you not, some of the most important conversations of my life have happened at my local Mexican restaurant.

(Also, I love tacos.)

If we were having Mexican and Margaritas, I would tell you … that I don’t really have a book on my “currently reading” shelf, and it’s driving me a bit mad. I’ve been binging some TV shows lately (more on that later), and it’s hard for me to divide my focus between two stories. I’m looking forward to starting a new book soon, though! I think my first will be The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender, followed by This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills, which Alexa was so sweet to send to me this week!

If we were having Mexican and Margaritas, I would tell you … that I turn 30 next year, and recently that’s been on my mind a lot. It’s not something I’m “scared of” or “worried about,” because honestly I’ve always just wanted to be older. But it does make you think about where you are in your life, what you have/have not accomplished, and what you want your life to be. I’m a firm believer that anyone can be anything they want to be, and that you can make it happen at any point in your life, but I also know that these years I’m living right now are really important. I need to start going to the doctor regularly, I need to go the dentist, I need to open up a savings account (ugh, don’t even get me started). I’m trying to be proactive and make a lot of changes right now, and it’s wonderful and terrifying all at once. Oh, and I’d also probably mention that I am starting to save money for my 30th birthday extravaganza next April, in which I will be going to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter for the first time ever!!!

If we were having Mexican and Margaritas, I would tell you … that I’ve recently started carrying small purses and it’s kinda wigging me out a bit. I used to make my purse decisions based 50% off of whether I could fit a book in it, and 50% all the other reasons you might want to choose a purse. Maybe in the past 6 months or so I’ve started carrying these really compact purses (a bit bigger than wristlets, and some of them can fit a small mass market), and it’s this thing that shouldn’t be strange at all yet somehow is because it goes against everything I’ve ever felt about purses for the last 10 years, haha! (None of this is to say that I don’t still have a wealth of big purses to choose from, should the need arise, mind you.)

If we were having Mexican and Margaritas, I would tell you … that my boyfriend and I recently hit 7.5 years, and it’s one of the most amazing and wonderful milestones I’ve ever hit in my life. We didn’t really celebrate it in a big way (I think a homemade dinner with a wine toast was involved?), but it was such a special night. We’ve been together for so long that at times it seems as though I’ve never been with anyone else, and at other times it still feels so new and special and wonderful it’s all I can do not to melt into a swoony puddle. We’ve started talking about marriage and moving in together in terms of when and not if, and that’s probably the biggest takeaway from how far we’ve come in the past year. This feels real and important and like forever, and I’m so grateful to have found such a great guy to spend the rest of my life looking at like I am in this picture. <3

If we were having Mexican and Margaritas, I would tell you … that I recently (like earlier today) finished watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and MY FEELS ARE A MESS. I watched it all the time growing up (and the spin-off series, Angel) but for both I never made it to the later seasons. For Buffy I had only gotten to about S5, and then last year rewatched through almost of S6 – but I stopped about 5 episodes away from the end because I knew things were about to get heavy and I just wasn’t ready. About a week ago I decided to give it another try and surprise surprise it ended up in a binge watch of epic proportions and I totally cried at the series finale. Also, totally here for Buffy & Spike. #justsaying.

If we were having Mexican and Margaritas, I would tell you … that I have fallen into the planner craze and I have fallen hard. I was using the Erin Condren Life Planner for the last year, but recently decided to switch over to the Happy Planner and I’m pretty much in love with everything about it. I love that you can take the individual pages out because binding is always wreaking havoc with my handwriting. I love how many stickers and accessories you can find (I don’t do well with the create your own sort of stuff). I love how much character I can give it. I love that it’s basically a mess of colors and stickers and notes. I used to keep a RIDICULOUSLY detailed planner in high school but once I got out of school it just dropped off, even though I still had so many things to keep track of. It’s been really great to fall back into this hobby that I used to love so much, albeit this time with like GROWN UP things written in it! (You know, like bills and date nights and margarita evenings with the girls 😉

Ok, I wanna know – what’s going on in your lives? If we were out having Mexican and Margaritas, what would you want to share with me? Would you have any advice or thoughts on what I’ve shared?

<3 Let’s talk! <3

  1. I’m ALWAYS here for Mexican, so great way to bring me to your blog (aside from the other standard reasons of you’re awesome and I love your blog).

If we were having Mexican and Margaritas, I’d tell you that I’m sad the summer is over, but I’m ready for fall, especially since it was cool this past weekend in my neck of the woods and it gave me the CRAVINGS. Plus, pumpkin spice things are back.

I’d also tell you that my dad’s health isn’t great but it’s not untreatable,so there’s some stressing going on there. I try to keep positive because my mom worries and it helps my dad, but he’s upbeat as well. Everyone tells me always to never get old and I’m like, “Thank you, that advice is not timely anymore.” (I just turned 35.)

Speaking of 35, I don’t feel any older really than…somewhere in my 20s. I do go to the doctor though, lol, and recommend it. Stay healthy and stick around for more of those swoony face pictures!

I’ve also hardly blogged lately–or really at all this year–and I haven’t missed it. I am starting to plot out reviews again, though, so I think my little break is coming to an end. Note that I’ve said similar in the recent past and nothing has changed, but this feels different.

    Great post! Great you! xo

  2. This is such a fun post! I love your spin on Jamie’s coffee posts. TBH, I’m more likely to meet friends for margaritas than coffee too.

I’m so excited that you’re saving for the Wizarding World! I’m going to the new LA one this December and am SO excited. My boyfriend wanted to go to LA for New Year’s and I told him the only way I would come along is if we could go to Harry Potter World.

Congratulations on 7.5 years! That’s such a great accomplishment for the two of you! My boyfriend and I are coming up on 3 years, and while I know it’s not a long time, it still feels significant and I’m so happy with where we are too.

I look forward to reading more of these posts! It’s always so fun to get to know the blogger behind the posts more 🙂

  3. I always love posts like this!

If we were having Mexican and Margaritas, I’d be enjoying the food and conversation but skipping the margaritas, haha. I’d tell you that I’m so happy for you and your boyfriend! 7.5 years is a long time. If you guys are still in love after so many years, I don’t think there’s any reason to think that’s going to change. 🙂 I’d tell you that I’m glad 30 doesn’t scare you. I’m a year and a half away, and I have to admit it does scare me. I like your way of thinking about it, though. And it is a good reminder to enjoy life NOW. I’m always worrying about things that haven’t happened yet.

I’d also tell you that I’m planning to move to Germany next year, which is both exciting and terrifying. It’ll be a huge change, and I’ll need to really work on my rusty German skills. I resist change, so taking the first step is always the hardest part for me, but I know it will be worth it. 😀

  4. I turn 30 next year too and I’m kind of excited, to be honest. Being in your 30s somehow seems easier than your 20s. Maybe I will finally stop looking around for the grownup and realize that the grownup is me!

  5. WE NEED TO HAVE MEXICAN AND MARGARITAS OKAY BECAUSE NACHOS ARE LIFE.

I’m currently reading (well, sort of, I have too many books going at once to the point where maybe I’m NOT reading them?) FIRST & THEN by Emma Mills. I hope book 2 is just as great!

Your 30th birthday plans are TOTALLY AWESOME and I completely approve of them 10000000%. I know all those Adult things you’re thinking about aren’t the greatest (heck, anything financial and personal health can cause a whole lot of stress!), but you’ll be happier about it in the long run. I was 18 when I first opened my Roth IRA and I kid you not, so many of my friends still don’t have one (yet they’re married or own homes. WHAT.). You’re being smart and proactive and I can tell in the one massive change you tried this year that you’re happier for it!

    YOU AND CHRIS OTPS FOREVER

    SAME WITH BUFFY AND SPIKE

LET’S GET TACOS AND NACHOS NOW.

  6. I SHIP YOU AND CHRIS, YO. So happy that you’re with someone who makes you so happy, and that you guys are already plotting for the future. That’s an incredible gift <3 Also, yay to WWOHP for your 30th birthday! I will bug you about the saving thing if you'll bug me in return 😉 And enjoy the book! I was more than happy to share it with you.

ALSO… We need to have Mexican food the next time we are in the same city. Because YUM.

  7. If I did any of these posts, mine would totally be Mexican and margaritas. (I’m actually having that for dinner tonight with friends and it’s much needed ahhhhh). So yeah I’m a month late to this post but Laura put it in her wrap-up last week, so here I am regardless.

I am really commenting to say the same thing about purses!! I have always bought HUGE purses to carry everything and it really doesn’t make sense much anymore? I always use a small purse on the weekends because I’m usually out with Chris and why would I need a book at that point? haha. I love having one with me at all times but (a) I could get a smaller one and carry my kindle in it or (b) use the Kindle app on my phone. I’ve definitely been looking toward smaller purses so we’ll see if I can break the habit haha. I also like bringing a book to work in my purse but I don’t really NEED to because I often pack a tote bag to bring inside the office anyways, with random lunch things or snacks or items I need to print postage for haha.

SO YEAH LONG COMMENT ONE MONTH LATE
