2017 Reading Challenge Sign Ups

Goodreads Reading Challenge

My Goal: 52 Books

Hosted By: Goodreads

This is been my longest standing challenge, and I know how some people feel about it, but I love it. I really get a thrill out of challenging myself to read a certain number of books each year, and pushing to meet that goal. (This is also why you see, from previous years, my # go up and then back down…) I’ve said this numerous times to numerous people, but I stand by it – averaging one book a week a week for an entire year feels completely valid to me!

Previous Participation:
2016: 52/52 books
2015: 53/52 books
2014: 72/70 books
2013: 88/85 books
2012: 50/50 books

Flights of Fantasy

My Goal: 20 books

Hosted By: Alexa Loves Books and Hello, Chelly

Fantasy Adventure is one of my forever favorite genres, and I love pushing myself to read even more of this genre – especially with how many amazing YA Fantasy books have been published recently!! (PS: Am I the only one that prefers YA Fantasy to Adult Fantasy? Is this just because i haven’t found the right Adult Fantasy books/author?)

Previous Participation:
2016: 18/20 books
2015: 21/20 books

Historical Fiction Reading Challenge

My Goal: 15 Books, Medieval

Hosted By: Passages to the Past

Historical Fiction!! My forever and always love <3 I have seriously fallen off of the Hist Fic wagon the last few years, which is one of my biggest reading bummers – I love this genre SO MUCH and there is SO MUCH to be read, but somehow I just haven’t gotten to it. Hopefully this is my year!

Previous Participation:
2016: 9/15 Books
2015: 13/15 Books

Netgalley & Edelweiss Reading Challenge

My Goal: 10 Books, Bronze

Hosted By: Bookish Things & More

Sooooooooo my Netgalley ratio … well, it … um, well, let’s just say it leaves something to be desired. I love this challenge that aims to up your ratio and give yourself a reasonable goal to make it happen! I’m not a huge Netgalley reviewer (which makes my deplorable goal even more embarassing), but I really want to fix that this year!

2017 Discussion Challenge

My Goal: 11-20 Discussion Posts, Creative Conversationalist

Hosted By: Feed Your Fiction Addiction & It Starts at Midnight

Some of my absolute favorite posts on other people’s blogs are discussion posts – I love getting to see in the minds of such amazing and creative individuals. I’ve had a few fun discussion posts in the past, but I really want to make it a priority to do some more bookish talking this year (or maybe just talking in general?). Hopefully I come off half as creative and interesting as some of the other book bloggers around the blogosphere!

2017 Library Love Challenge

My Goal: 12 Books, Dewey Decimal

Hosted by: Bea’s Book Nook & Angel’s Guilty Pleasures

Whhhhyyyyy do I not go to the library more?! Oh yeah – it’s because I owe crazy library fines and I get a crazy discount at my bookstore. HOWEVER – that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t make a valid attempt to a) fix my library fine issue (that’s a whole other discussion, seriously) and b) take the time to browse the stacks again. Sometimes working in a bookstore (especially considering I handle the “operational” portions; i.e. payroll, scheduling, ordering, training, hiring, etc) means that I don’t take the time to just walk the stacks and see what’s new and interesting.

Audiobook Challenge 2017

My Goal: 5-10 Audio Books, Weekend Warrior

Hosted By: Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Hot Listens

I’ve had a lot of fun getting into audio books the past few years, and I really want to make more of an attempt to listen to even more this year. At this point it’s really a matter of finding audio book narrators that work for me (because if I don’t like the narrator, it seriously doesn’t matter how amazing the book is – it’s not going to happen).

Newbery Reading Challenge 2017

My Goal: L’Engle, 15-29 Points

Hosted By: The Smiling Shelves

I was in a bit of a pickle last year, because I had about a week left in the year and had to finish three books to meet my Goodreads Challenge – so I decided to browse the Newbery section to see if I could find some short books to round out the year. It ended up being a great decision, because I loved the two books I read! I can’t wait to read more of these award winners!

&finally, the #ReRead2017 Challenge … which, well, technically doesn’t exist – but it did exist for the past two years and I really enjoyed taking part in it, so I’m just going to pretend that it exists again, …

#ReRead2017 Challenge

Hosted By: This Is Really Just A Personal Goal

My Goal: 6 Books

I’ve never been big into re-reading books, but this challenge luckily really tested me in fun ways. I’ve reconnected with some absolute gems from my childhood, and I enjoyed every second of it. I know I’ll be doing a few re-reads for my Year of Recommended Reading project with Alexa, but I hope to fit even more in this year!

Previous Participation?
2016: 11/6
2015: 6/12

What challenges are you participating in this year? I know it seems crazy to participate in so many different challenges when I’m only planning on reading 52 books, but I love having the idea of these challenges in the back of my head throughout the year. (As long as I don’t give myself too much grief if I don’t hit one of the goals – it’s just about varying my reads, not making myself crazy!)

Let’s talk!

    1. Thanks for the info! When I mentioned about the ReRead challenge, I totally forgot to say that I was referencing a specific one my friends had hosted, haha. I’ll look into those others.

&&thanks for creating the discussion challenge! I’m excited to be taking part 🙂

  1. Good luck with all your challenges!! I think you’re a reader after my own heart, I signed up for a TON this year too. I love them, I find them very motivating.

  2. I sincerely love that you have set so many challenge goals for yourself! (I’ve got quite a few on my list as well, but let’s see how well I do…) Anyway, I’m THRILLED you’ll be doing Flights of Fantasy again. That reading challenge is my baby, and I love interacting with fellow fantasy readers!

    1. I love Flights of Fantasy! Historically, I do pretty much awful about the monthly interactions and round ups and linkys and such, but it’s really nice to a) draw attention to challenges created by lovely bloggers like you, and b) challenge myself to broaden my reading interests!
