The Year of Recommended Reading: Cartwheeling in Thunderstorms

The Year of Recommended Reading: Cartwheeling in Thunderstorms

Last year I got to participate in a ridiculously fun blogger collaboration, Tracking Down Tunes, with a ridiculously awesome blogger, Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books. As 2016 came to a close, we were chatting about how much we wanted to do another feature together, and how this one should center around books somehow. We came up with The Year of Recommended Reads to work on getting through some of the books that have been sitting on our TBR piles forever, as well as to have a reason to force each other to read books that we think the other would like! 😉 Without further ado, the book for this month was …. Make sure you stop by Alexa’s blog to check out her experience reading Cartwheeling in Thunderstorms! Why I wanted to read this book: In December of 2014, I was going through the Young Readers section of the bookstore at the end of the night (hello recovery during holiday, EEK) and my eye caught on this gorgeous faced out book called Rooftoppers. I had never seen it before, and the author (Katherine Rundell) was unfamiliar to me. I picked up the book, checked out the synopsis, and made a mental […]

Make sure you visit Alexa’s post about her experience with this book over at Alexa Loves Books! Why I wanted to read this book: Two things that will always, always, always make me pick up a book to check out the synopsis? Hearing “historical fiction” and “WWII.” Add in the amazingly awesome praise that this book received right off the bat, and the praise is continued to get in the years since, and this is one book that was always always very near the top of my TBR pile. […]

Blogger Collab: The Year of Recommended Reading

Blogger Collab: The Year of Recommended Reading

Last year I got to participate in a ridiculously fun blogger collaboration, Tracking Down Tunes, with a ridiculously awesome blogger, Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books. As 2016 came to a close, we were chatting about how much we wanted to do another feature together, and how this one should center around books somehow. We ended up coming up with The Year of Recommended Reads to solve a few conundrums: 1) Having books that we’re “going to get to someday” that just sit forever on our Goodreads TBRs 2) Wanting the other to read a book but not being able to find a suitable reason/form of coercion 😉 3) Finally finding a reason to FORCE EACH OTHER TO READ All the Light We Cannot See (no, seriously, we’ve been planning that buddy read going on 9 months. For real.) So what exactly does this mean?  Basically, it means this: We’ve already chosen a book for each month – we’ll each read it during that month, and at the end of the month we’ll post our reviews on the same day. Here’s an idea of what you’ll see in each post: The reason we wanted to read that book (or why we wanted […]

Tracking Down Tunes: Pump It Up

Tracking Down Tunes: Pump It Up

For this project, Alexa @ Alexa Loves Books and I have decided to expand our musical interests, while also recommending to each other some of our favorite songs! Each month Alexa and I will be creating and sharing a themed Spotify playlist at the beginning of the month (for the songs we listened to/found the month prior). The idea is that out of the 10 songs that we add to the playlist, at least 5 of them have to be brand new to us – the others are allowed to be songs that we’ve listened to and loved (but should fall under recommendations to each other.) The whole idea here is to find bands and artists that we fall in love with that we may never have looked for if not for us actively Tracking Down Tunes! This month we’re talking about the songs we listen to when we need to get energized, motivated, or just need a jump in our day! (Head over to Alexa’s post to see which 10 songs she added to the playlist, and why!) Good Times | INXS with Jimmy Barnes The first time I heard this song was when I saw the movie The Lost Boys, and I […]

This month we’re doing things a bit different – we’re sharing songs that remind us of a particular place, person, point in time, or moment. One of my favorite things about music is the way that a melody or tune or note can immediately bring you outside of the current moment, outside of yourself – and remind you so viscerally of things in your past. it […]

This month we’re doing things a bit different – we’re sharing some of our favorite soundtrack songs! We’ll be sharing 5 instrumental songs, and 5 lyrical songs that so perfectly fit the scene and/or movie we can’t help but LOVE them! I’m really excited to share these because I have always been a huge fan of movie soundtracks and love love love moments in film that […]
